I began my design career at Signs of the Times, a small sign shop about a block from Stephen F. Austin State University. In addition to being a business student, I learned to design and build signs and take care of the people that used our shop. Soon I added advertising design classes to my degree plan. I graduated from SFA with a Bachelor in Business Administration, as well as a second major in Advertising Design.

Shortly after graduation I married my wife Sara and moved to Tyler. Over the next few years I gained further experience by running a 60in large format printer and designing signs and marketing materials. As a designer, I also created concept and production drawings for many types of illuminated signage. I learned a great deal running the printer, but I missed working directly with clients like I did at the small sign shop where I got my start. Out of this desire, Engelking Design was started.
